History:

The Monmouth Independence Community Arts Association  (MICAA) was founded in 1974 by a group of citizens who wished to promote the arts in the two communities.

In 1976 they began the annual 4th of July Arts Festival in the Monmouth Main Street Park.  This festival is opened with a concert in the park given by the Reconstituted Monmouth Independence Town Band and the Willamette Valley Concert Band.  A highlight of the evening is an auction.  The winning bidder conducts the finale, “The Stars and Stripes Forever,”

Each year about 40 to 50 vendors sell their hand crafted wares in the park during the festival.  Local talent entertains daily.

In 1982 Independence formally formed it’s “Western Days” 4th of July Celebration.  The two celebrations are complimentary but distinct in their organization.  A gala 4th of July parade links the two events.

MICAA  is funded by donations and membership dues.  Fundraiser, auctions, and grants supplement our income.
